The Perfect Gift

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NKJV).

In a few short days it will be Christmas Day. Many will still be searching, shopping and spending for that ‘perfect gift’. Looking for just the right gift, that conveys just the right message of the love of the giver to the receiver.

The budget will be stretched as much as possible, and too often more than is available.

When Christmas Day dawns and those gifts are finally presented, the receiver gratefully opens and enjoys the gifts given them, and receives more than the gift, but a message of the love and appreciation of the giver.

Some have gone to great lengths to find, prepare and present that ‘perfect gift’.

The truth is at this time of year, we have already been given the ‘perfect gift’. No expense was spared because it cost the Father His own Son. For centuries, The Father has been searching us out, trying to get our attention so that He could present to us His ‘perfect gift”.

A gift is also only really given when it is received. How sad when Christmas gifts are not received for whatever reason. How sad too for the Father of the Universe, when His ‘perfect gift’ is not received.

But, many have received that ‘perfect gift’. The gift of Christ, the Saviour of the world. Given at great cost by a loving Father. How it must thrill God the Father to see us receive and enjoy that ‘perfect gift’.

That’s what Christmas is about. Acknowledging and remembering and thanking God for that amazing and wonderful ‘perfect gift’.

… For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is GIVEN …

In all the activity, the flurry, food and family, and all the good things that Christmas is, let’s pause to reflect and remember that we will live forever with the Father when we receive that ‘perfect gift’, the gift of His own Son; given that we might not die, but live forever in His presence!

Wow! The ‘perfect gift’. What a gift! What a giver! What a future!

Wendy and I take this opportunity to wish you a very wonderful Christmas. May the joy of giving and receiving gifts fill your hearts and homes, and may the wonder of the presence of the ‘Perfect Gift’ – Jesus Christ – in our lives bring great glory to God.
