Possessing Our Possessions Pt3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ… Ephesians 1:3  NKJV.

We’re looking at three key statements (truths) about possessing our possessions.

Here’s the third.

What are our possessions?

I said in the last Brief Word, that we are all very rich. Yes we are. Maybe not in this world’s goods but in the spiritual possessions God has given us.

How sad it would be, if at the local BMW Dealership, there was sitting there in the showroom, a brand new BMW X3 M50, given to us full payment having been made, and legally ours, just waiting for us to come and pick it up. But we haven’t picked it up because we are not aware of its existence.

How could we know unless someone, who has the authority, (we’ll call him Mr R), comes to us and tells us all about it.

When we don’t know what we don’t know, we live that way. But imagine the frustration Mr R has, knowing that we own a beautiful new Bema but don’t know about it and we are therefore living without it.

Actually, that’s a great picture of things in the spiritual realm. Mr R, is a quiet, respectful gentlemen, and He will never impose anything on us, but comes to us and speaks to us when we are living an invitational lifestyle. You might have guessed it – Mr R, is the Holy Spirit.

I can testify that the Holy Spirit has loads and loads of revelation (hence My R) for us, and He is more than willing to download that to us.

One morning I got up and after my usual routine sat down to have my quiet time. I opened up Luke 15, and wow, it was like a torrent of truth came at me. It was as if there was a tube transmitting truth from My Father in Heaven direct into my heart and mind. It was amazing. I knew I was receiving revelation.

Are you and I living an invitational lifestyle for revelation from God?

Do you know just how much He has blessed you and what He has blessed you with?

… who has blessed us…

This blessing is ours. God’s resources are there for us always. This speaks of an attitude of certainty and assurance.

C H Spurgeon says this. “We are not sitting here, and groaning, and crying, and fretting, and worrying, and questioning our own salvation. He has blessed us; and therefore we will bless Him. If you think little of what God has done for you, you will do very little for Him; but if you have a great notion of His great mercy to you, you will be greatly grateful to your gracious God.

… with every spiritual blessing …

Again, C H Spurgeon says this. “Our thanks are due to God for all temporal blessings; they are more than we deserve. But our thanks ought to go to God in thunders of hallelujahs for spiritual blessings. A new heart is better than a new coat. To feed on Christ is better than to have the best earthly food. To be an heir of God is better than being the heir of the greatest nobleman. To have God for our portion is blessed, infinitely more blessed than to own broad acres of land. God hath blessed us with spiritual blessings. These are the rarest, the richest, the most enduring of all blessings; they are priceless in value.

If we have no appreciation for spiritual blessing, then we live at the level of animals. Animals live only to eat, sleep, entertain themselves, and to reproduce. We are made in the image of God and He has something much higher for us, yet many choose to live at the level of animals. God wants us to know every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.

This means that every blessing we receive, we receive in Christ. This means that God wants to bless us with every blessing available to us.

Remember what Joshua said near the end of his life.

How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers HAS GIVEN YOU? Joshua 18:3 NKJV (Emphasis mine).

Do you know what He’s given you? There’s just an endless list of all the things God has given us, spiritual blessings, spiritual possessions to possess. Here’s a short list.

  1. He chose us.
  2. That we should be holy.
  3. That we should be without blame.
  4. In Him we have redemption through His blood.
  5. In Him we have forgiveness through His blood.
  6. The riches of His grace.
  7. In Him also we have obtained an inheritance.
  8. In whom … you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

And that’s just from Ephesians Chapter 1!

In Summary.

  1. God has already given. God will show us what is legally ours.
  2. God fights for us. Jesus wins the victory for us so we can destroy the inhabitants of the land and take full possession of it (spiritual and physical blessings).
  3. What are our possessions? Every spiritual blessing. Being a son and daughter of Almighty God. Forgiven. Free. Made righteous. Justified. And so on, and so on, and so on.

Let’s not be so occupied with life and even ministry, that we make ourselves unavailable for the gracious Holy Spirit to reveal what He’s done for us and what He’s already given us.

Yes my friend, God, the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Revelation, just wants to reveal truth, doctrine, and principles to you, which help you know Him more and serve Him better.

Possess your possessions – in Jesus.
