The Star of Christmas!
Matthew 1:1-2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” (NKJV).
Christmas time always reminds us of the truth of the incarnation. The whole reason for the story of Christ’s coming is contained in many of the Christmas Carols we sing at this time of year. Pity we sing them only at Christmas time!
The wise men we read about in Matthew 2:1-2, were drawn to a particular place by a star. They had seen this star, they knew what it meant, and had changed their journey to find where it was that the King of the Jews was to be born. It was there that that they bowed in worship. These wise men, worshipped. (As the saying goes, wise men worship Him still).
They saw something special, they had a revelation. Something drew these wise men to a place geographically, and then they worshipped.
Matthew 2:9-11 When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (NKJV).
The revelation, the star, these wise men saw, was so significant to them, that it changed the direction of their lives. Not only that, but it caused them to offer costly gifts.
What is it that draws us or drives us, what revelation have we had that draws us to a place geographically and spiritually, where we do nothing but worship and offer costly gifts?
The Christmas story always reminds me of this incredible truth – God loves us, and so much so does He love us, that He sent His only Son to the earth, to live and die, so that we might not die but live!
This star, this revelation, has changed my life! It has changed many lives for the last 2,000 plus years!
May we never forget the wonder of the coming to the earth of our Lord and Saviour. May we never tire of ‘seeing’ this star, this revelation which can only cause us to live a life of worship, and offer Him the service of our life.
Remember Christmas starts with Christ. Jesus is still the reason for the season!
