Perspective

  • When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” Matthew 16:13 NKJV
  • He said to them, “But who do you say that I am? Matthew 16:15 NKJV
  • Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16 NKJV

What is our perspective, our view, our vision, our concept of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit?

It’s very important. How we view something is our reality of that. It’s a bit like wearing glasses. They become a filter, that changes what is, to what we see. The reality hasn’t changed, but what we see of it has. In the case of glasses, because our eyes are old, we need them to see a clearer, better closer version of reality. We also wear sunglasses to lessen the glare of the sun on a bright sunny day.

In just the same way, people have filters, which change the reality of what is, so that they see it differently. Filters can be, socio economic upbringing and status, loss, tragedy, success, education, upbringing, beliefs, experiences, crisis, the way people have treated us, life, hurts, and many things.

Perceptions can feel very real, but that doesn’t mean they are real, or necessarily factual, or the truth.

This issue of perception or vision, is important especially as it relates to how we see or perceive or view God. Our vision, our perspective of God is how we relate to God, how we receive things from God, and how we run through life. Perception is reality. How we see things is often how they will be for us. How we see God is often the measure of His ministry to us.

Some people have a problem at times with what they think God has or hasn’t done.  They wonder why God would do that to me, or why He did not stop that happening. Therefore, they have a view of God which is incorrect because it is based on their perception of His actions or lack thereof. It becomes an erroneous view of who God is. They think, well God did these bad things to me, so God must be bad or at the least not that very good.  God gets blamed for all sorts of things.

Let’s have a Truth perception, of the word of God, of Jesus.  We need a reality check. We need a revelation! God wants to extend the perspective, the view we have, of God.

Here’s three big questions.

i.  Who is God the Father?

For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? 2 Samuel 22:32 NKJV.

ii.  Who is God the Son?

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:15-16 NKJV.

iii.  Who is God the Holy Spirit?

  • And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” Acts 19:1-2 NKJV.
  • The first thing he said was, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? Did you take God into your mind only, or did you also embrace him with your heart? Did he get inside you?” “We’ve never even heard of that – a Holy Spirit? God within us?”
    Acts 19:2
    MSG.

Our response to these questions has a massive impact upon our lives.

  • What we believe about God the Father, determines our Identity. Who we are comes from God the Father. He is where we find out who we are and where we receive our name from. Fathers give Identity.
This answers the question, who am I? Believe right about the Father — existence sorted.
  • What we believe about God the Son, determines our Destiny. Where we are going to spend eternity is determined by who we believe Jesus to be. If we believe He’s the Saviour who took our sins and died and rose again for us and we accept His offer of eternal life with Him forever, then we will spend eternity with Him. If we don’t believe and accept His offer of forgiveness, then we will live eternally separated from Him in abject hell.
This answers the question, where am I going? Believe right about Jesus — eternal destiny sorted.
  • What we believe about God the Holy Spirit, determines our Activity. What we do on the earth, and our fruitfulness, and our ability to do anything of value for the Kingdom of God and the people of the earth, is dependent upon the Holy Spirit living in us, inspiring us, empowering us, guiding us, revealing to us things we need to see and know.
This answers the question, what am I meant to do? Believe right about the Holy Spirit — earthly destiny sorted.

What we believe about;

— God the Father — Determines our Identity Character Design Form
— God the Son — Determines our Destiny Eternity Destination Future
— God the Holy Spirit — Determines our Activity Ministry Doing Function

What we believe is everything. It shapes and molds our lives. But here’s the thing; perspective determines belief. And belief determines behaviour. Our behaviour, what we do, stems from what we believe, which comes from how we see things or what our perspective is.

To function in life I believe we need a proper understanding, a correct perception, a Biblical belief and doctrine about God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

And here’s how we get it.

When Jesus commended Peter for saying who He – Jesus – was, He says, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven”. Matthew 16:17 NKJV.

Peter received a revelation about who Jesus was. It changed his life.

God and His word can change our mindsets, destroy false beliefs, establish and strengthen right beliefs.

We need a revelation also, about who God the Father is, who God the Son is, and who God the Holy Spirit is.

Seek God. Put Him above everything. Dwell in His word.

Then you too are in position for a revelation about who God really is.

It will change your life.
