I Pick You — Just Because
You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. John 15:16 NKJV.
Did you get those words; I chose you? Wow!
This Brief Word comes out of an experience I had not long ago. It was at a speaking engagement, and I was preparing to speak and teach, and share the revelation I knew I had from the Lord. But, in the short space of time before I was due to speak, I felt the fullness of my health limitations. I was shaking badly, (which is not unusual as my Neurologist tells me I have Parkinson’s), my legs felt weak so that I could hardly stand, and I just felt so incapable of delivering the message I had. The painful part of it is that the very thing I felt God had called me to do, I couldn’t do! The tears flowed, and I discussed, or really argued with the Lord about it.
It was very clear. This is how the conversation went.
Me. Lord, what am I doing here, in this condition, I’m shaking like a leaf and weak as. How can I do it?
God. I’ve given you a word for these people.
Me. I know, but please pick someone else. I’m happy to stand aside.
God. No. I pick you.
Me. Why?
God. Just because.
Wow. I mean when you get a just because from God, it’s a bit like being told off by your parent.
I’ve known weakness in my body before, but this was real and not good timing right before I was due to speak. The lack of strength and the shaking were a worry to me. But, God’s word was clear.
Over recent years I have said many times; Self is always the problem surrender is always the answer. I knew that’s what I needed to do. So right there, before the meeting, in my room I knelt down and surrendered again to the Lord. Everything. The message I had, the weaknesses I felt, the worries occupying my mind, the embarrassment I might feel at my shaking, and the dream, the vision of God’s word touching and bringing freedom to His precious people. It was all the Lord’s. More tears.
I thank God for family and friends, people who love and care for me, and who pray for me. God heard their prayers and mine. I went to the meeting and stood to deliver the word of the Lord with these words ringing in my ears, I pick you – just because. God is gracious. I sensed His presence and His ability enabling me to do it.
This is interesting. Jesus prayed all night, then He chose twelve to be His disciples.
Then He appointed (chose) twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, Mark 3:14 NKJV (Emphasis added).
Notice the two reasons or purposes of the twelve being chosen and appointed;
- Firstly to be with Him, then,
- Secondly to be sent out.
Don’t miss this, and the order.
Once the disciples had been with Jesus, then they could go out with His power. We must first be with Jesus for Him to be with us (in power and miracles). First, we sit at His feet. We are with Him, the subordinate with the superior, the student with the Master, the child with the adult. Of course He is with us every moment, but to go in His power and authority, we must first be with Him.
You can never go in authority until you’ve first followed in discipleship. Power comes from presence. Authority comes from association.
Here’s a short list of Scriptures about being chosen by God.
- If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. John 15:19
- Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
Ephesians 1:4 - But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 2 Thessalonians 2:13
- But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; 1 Peter 2:9
- These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.” Revelation 17:14
So here’s the bottom line. No matter what your background, no matter how broken you are, no matter how weak you feel, no matter how rich or poor you are, no matter what the circumstances are in your life right now, no matter what your education or qualifications are or are not, you need to know this.
God says to you, and I believe this with all my heart, I pick you – just because.
And there are many reasons, or answers to the why question. Because He loves you. Because He is for you. Because He is in you and with you. Because He has a plan for your life.
I pick you – just because. Because He is God, the Lord. Almighty, Jehovah! He’s our Father and as every parent has the right to say their kids, just because, so too our heavenly Father can speak to us those same words. I pick you – just because. Because we are loved, redeemed, justified, and saved. Because He is God, and He knows stuff we don’t, so we just trust Him.
Why don’t you write this out on paper or something, and put it up where you can see it every day for the next seven days?
Thank God, He calls us to Himself. Hallelujah. He knows what He’s doing when He calls, anoints and appoints you and me.
Yes it’s true.
