I Must Just Trust!

Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the Lord  with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  (NKJV).

There are times in life when we just don’t know what to think or do.  When everything around is us changing.  Things once familiar are no more.  Things we once knew as securities are no more.

What do we think and do at these times?  How do we face life with faith and wisdom, with grace and patience?

Maybe this wise age-old proverb can help us.

1. Trust The LordV5A.

The word Trust comes from a Hebrew word which means to lie helpless, facedown.  It pictures a servant waiting for the master’s command in readiness to obey, or a defeated soldier yielding himself to the conquering general.  Trust is reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, and surety of a person or thing.  It is confidence.  Confidence in the certainty of future payment for property or goods received.

We take our car to the mechanic for repairs.  He or she repairs it, “in trust” that we will pay the bill on completion.

This year is well under way, and I hope we haven’t made any rash New Year’s resolutions.  But perhaps make just one – to trust God from our heart (the center of everything), and do what He says.  Because God is certainly trustworthy, above any other.

2. Lean Your Thinking on Him.  V5B.

Self-sufficiency and self-dependence have been the ruin of mankind ever since the fall of Adam.  The grand sin of the human race is their continual endeavour to live independently of God, to be without God in the world.

True religion, true faith, true Christianity consists in considering God the fountain of all good, and expecting all good from Him.

Perhaps there’ll be times this year when you “don’t know what to think”.  At those times, lean your thinking on Him and His Word.  Roll it over to Him.

Baby On Pumlin 150225Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate (think) on these things.(NKJV).

3. Worship Him in Everything.  V6A.

Remember Psalm 23:4.  It says; though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. (NKJV).

It speaks of the shadow of death.  The shadow of a sword cannot kill, the shadow of a serpent will not sting.  There is no substantial evil in it.  The shadow of the devil cannot harm.  We fear too much the shadow of trouble.  Let’s not fear “what might be”.

In Psalm 23:1-3 David talks ABOUT the shepherd.  Then in Psalm 23:4 David talks TO the shepherd.  There’s a big difference.

A small boy was on a long distance train.  He gets restless.  A passenger across the aisle calls him over and chats.  She says “That’s a nice sailor suit you’ve got on.”  The boy replies, “My mummy made it”.

The train goes into tunnel.  It is very dark.  The boy throws his arms around his mother and says: “Mummy, mummy you’re here and I’m not scarred, am I.

When things were OK and in the sunshine, it was wise for him to talk ABOUT his Mummy.  But when darkness came, he talked TO his mother.

Let’s be decisive in our moment-by-moment worship of the Lord.  Let’s talk TO the Lord more, let’s have conversations with Him in the every-day moments.

4. You Can Expect Direction.  V6B.

People are desperate for direction, wanting His will, they want to know where to go.  Which is all good and right!  But too often this is the starting point.

Direction from God though is the fruit of a deeper root, that of TRUST.

A little girl and her father were crossing a bridge.  The father was a bit scared so he asked his little daughter, “Sweetheart, please hold my hand so that you don’t fall into the river.”

The little girl said, “No, Dad. You hold my hand.”  “What’s the difference?” Asked the puzzled father.

There’s a big difference,” replied the little girl.  “If I hold your hand and something happens to me, chances are that I may let your hand go. But if you hold my hand, I know for sure that no matter what happens, you will never let my hand go.”

In any relationship, the essence of trust is not in its bind, but in its bond.

So, go on, speak it out loud – I Must Just Trust!

Inspired by De Seuss I wrote this:

I must just trust, I must I must I must,
I will not bust, I will not bust,
No, no, no, without much fuss,
I must just trust, I must I must I must.

Whatever comes my way, in any given day,
I will only stay; stay, stay, stay,
I must just trust, I must I must I must.
Yes I will, I will, I will!

I must just trust, you see, you see,
The very centre part of me,
Will do its best to stand the test,
I must just trust, I must I must I must.

There is a Father who will hold your hand,Baby In Hand 150225
Much better than be found in any land,
His hand will hold you right and tight,
Then you’ll know, His glow for you will only grow.

And so the meaning and the streaming,
Of this little rhyme, in the very best of time,
Will come to you, and you and you and you,
Then, like me, you’ll say,
I must just trust, I must I must I must.
Yes I will; I will I will I will!
I do; I do I do I do!
