Logos & Rhema Part 2

No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. John 15:15 NKJV.

In the last Brief Word #159 Logos and Rhema Part 1, we looked at Logos and Rhema and what those Greek words mean.

We understand the word Rhema to be the quickened word, or the specific word or the revealed word of the Lord for a given situation. We understand the word Logos, to be the whole sayings of God, or the whole truth or doctrine about a thing. We read all of God’s word – Logos, but God quickens to us, or reveals to us, or speaks to us through a passage or a verse or even one word of God’s word, the Bible, a Rhema. Some have said that the Logos is the written word and the Rhema is the spoken word.

Remember; In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 NKJV. Jesus, is, the Logos.

Thinking of the word Logos in that light, changes the way we see the words, the Doctrine, the sayings of God. It changes them from being static, one dimensional, a simple singular meaning of a word which is clear and definite boundaries.

But Logos … is not static, limited, or set. It is alive. It is the living conversation of the Trinity into which we are invited to participate. It is the sum, if that could be found, of the meaning of the conversation of that God-head.

When we respond and enter into that conversation, (relationship), three incredible things happen.

Firstly we become part of the conversation or the relationship between the Father, the Son and the Spirit.

  • Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!  Deuteronomy 6:4 NKJV
  • I and My Father are one.  John 10:30 NKJV
  • The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.  John 3:35 NKJV
  • The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do.  John 5:19  NKJV
  • The Spirit will not speak on His own authority… He will glorify Me.  John 16:13–14 NKJV

So the relationship between the Father, Son and Spirit is one of absolute openness, love, respect and care. And we get to become part of that intimacy, part of the conversation, part of that unity. No wonder the Bible says, we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Think that one through! We are there, in the conversation, in the very intimacy, and unity, and conversation of Father Son and Spirit. Is that mind-blowing or what! That we can be there, exist there, and commune, converse and consume the wonders of who He is, the matchless riches of His Word, and the splendour of His eternal presence. All because of His grace and mercy!

So again, it is no wonder that we have desires which are in fact the will of God for us.

Secondly, there is nothing hidden from any of them.

These passages together show the perfect love and agreement, unity in purpose, presence and shared mission of the Trinity. Remember also at Jesus’ baptism we have the Trinity involved: the Son baptised, the Spirit descends, the Father speaks. (Matthew 3:16–17 NKJV).

  • The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do. John 5:19 NKJV.
  • The Spirit will not speak on His own authority… He will glorify Me. John 16:13–14 NKJV.
  • God’s eternal purpose: “that He might gather together in one all things in Christ. Ephesians 1:9–10 NKJV.
  • Baptism “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19  NKJV.
  • … that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us… John 17:21 NKJV.
  • … that they may be one just as We are one … John 17:21 NKJV.

Now we know that the Father has shared all things with the Son. (Bear with me).

… for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
John 15:15
NKJV.

However, there is one piece of information which only the Father knows. Not even the angels who are constantly closest to the Father, know this piece of information. It is the day when Jesus will return to the earth and the great end time plan of God will finally be completed. Jesus does not know when that will be. The Holy Spirit does not know when that will be. The angles do not know when that will be.

But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
Matthew 24:36
NKJV.

And yet that knowing/not knowing is not a problem, it is not a threat, it is not a point of contention or strife or division between any of the God-head. Each of the God-head has complete trust in the others that though they know or don’t know, they wait in absolute love, intimacy and trust. (How very unlike us when one of us in any relationship discovers the other knows something we don’t).

We have entered into that kind of relationship. So now, when we don’t know some info about this or that or the other, it does not bother us. We’re comfortable with mystery, because we live in intimacy and trust with the God-head who undoubtedly knows what’s going on in our world. But we are happy to live not knowing, and our relationship with God is unchanged, in fact it is strengthened.

Wow! Are you getting this? That we; being sons and daughters of the living God, (because of the love of God the Father, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the relationship of the Holy Spirit), are welcomed into the conversation of the God-head; the Spirit of the Father lives in us; the Spirit of the Son lives in us; and the Holy Spirit lives in us.

And you know what? We received a revelation of that as we studied and understood and received from the Holy Spirit, a revelation about the Logos and the Rhema.

Next time. The third blessing of entering into that conversation, that relationship of Logos and Rhema.
