God is God
- To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord Himself is God; there is none other besides Him. Deuteronomy 4:35 NKJV.
- Therefore know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the Lord Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. Deuteronomy 4:39 NKJV.
- But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. John 20:31 NKJV.
This is a crucial question: Is God, really God to us? How do we see God? Is He really God in every part of our life?
This is the core of the truth of God’s identity and our own Identity. It is the reference point, the starting place, the launching position, it is the foundation for the whole revelation about Identity. But it is not only the core of the Identity message, it is the reference point, the starting place, the launching position, it is the foundation of everything!
If we know that we know that we know, that God is God in every part of our life, then we begin to have an understanding of just about everything else.
The three verses in this Brief Word seem to speak to us of the past, present and future.
- Deuteronomy 4:35, says, to you it was shown – that’s the past.
- Deuteronomy 4:39, says, know this day – that’s the present.
- John 20:31, says, that you may believe – that’s now and to the future.
I wonder if God is truly God of our past, our present and our future? Are there issues, secrets or buried hurts from long ago that are still raw and painful? Are there issues or secrets and sins we battle with in the present that have until now never seen the light of day? Are there worries, anxieties and fears about our future?
The starting point to finding healing and freedom is knowing that God is God. But our heart and mind finds it difficult to accept. We find it hard to imagine or believe in our thinking that we could be free of this or that even though we think we want to be free. Our mind lies to us, with thoughts of, Well, I’m just too far gone for any change to happen, or, I’m behind the door when God hands out miracles and healing, or this one, How will I ever be able to face people again if they were to know I’m a failure in this situation.
We may often wonder why God has not sorted our situation which we know He can very well. It may be, that He is waiting for our absolute surrender and submission to who He is.
In each of the following miracles, the recipient calls Jesus Lord and honours who He was.
- The leper healed – And it happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and implored Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Luke 5:12 NKJV.
- The centurion and his servant healed – Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. Luke 7:6 NKJV.
- Blind Bartimaeus – saying, “What do you want Me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” Luke 18:41 NKJV.
We must first surrender to Who He is, before we can enjoy what He does.
Note this also.
- I am the Lord your God, occurs twenty-one times in the Book of Leviticus.
- That you may know, occurs seven times in the book of Exodus.
An acknowledgement of God’s Identity comes before an acquiring of His Activity.
In all of the commandments for the people of Israel to do things, they were not to forget who God is. Our doing is inextricably linked to God’s being. If God wants to keep reminding us of who He is when He is commanding us to do stuff, then it must be important that we first understand who He is, so that we can understand what we do.
Have a look over some of the promises God has given you, and you’ll likely find that somewhere there in it, is the refreshing to you of the Identity of God, then the promise of what He will do for you.
Growing in an understanding of God and His Identity, gives us a growing understanding of what He does and doesn’t do on the earth.
Life, and everything about it, is different when we have a different perspective and a clearer picture of God, His goodness, His greatness, His glory and His majesty. Our own’s life’s struggles with health, relationships, family, career, are all seen in a different light when we see God in a clearer light, when we see Him as He truly is, God!
Our prayer life, our casual conversation and our idle moments are different when we see God as God. When He is Lord and Master of all in us, then there can only be Divine change and the freedom we eagerly want.
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32 NKJV.
So; here’s the tough question. Is He Lord of all? Your past? Your present? Your future?
What a wonderful revelation it is, to know that God is God! And that, changes everything.
Is He calling for your all? Is He asking for your past, your present and your future? He surely is. Let’s give it all to Him. Then we can live in the freedom His Word brings.
Because free people, free people.
